Artificially Blooming

Explores the theme of technology versus nature in a post-apocalyptic future. The petal skirt is made with wire and foam to give structure, but malleability as well. Each petal is painted to look like metal, each representing a unique element of nature: feathers for birds, honeycomb for bees, flowers, leaves, coral for marine life, cells, and butterflies. I used real dried flowers and leaves, as well as clay to sculpt the coral pieces. Beneath these petals lies a flowing organza skirt, with petals sewn to appear to be falling. I intended to communicate a sense of decay, destruction, and the fragility of nature in the face of technological advancements.
