FMP - The Hills Have Eyes

A response to current immigration surveillance and the psychological tension of being under constant observation. This led to a broader investigation of paranoia, exposure, invasion of privacy, and the power dynamics present within the gaze, particularly in relation to voyeurism and the male gaze. At the same time, the concept developed from personal experiences of observing the outside world through my own bedroom window, prompting me to reflect on the perspectives between watching and being watched. 

The use of actual window blinds was recontextualised as a wearable structure inspired by my research into windows, domestic interiors, and hidden observation. The blinds are intentionally broken, bent, and fragmented across areas of the body, particularly around the chest, where a bright yellow bra is partially exposed beneath, symbolising the objectifying nature of the gaze. While the wearer attempts to shield themselves behind the blinds, the backside remains exposed. This contrast raises questions about whether anyone can ever truly remain hidden or protected within a contemporary society shaped by surveillance, technology, and constant exposure.
